Luciana Haill – Interactive Neurofeedback artist (Brighton UK)

With over 15 years experience recording raw brainwaves (EEG) and an obsession with the Human Brain since recovering from Viral Meningitis as a teenager, Luciana makes cyber dreams into reality utilising medical biofeedback technology. Creatively promoting the use of personal EEG monitoring, she also created the unusual outlet 'Brainthemepark' in Spitalfields and Kensington market, London

Involving several Bluetooth IBVA interfaces (Interactive Brainwave Visual Analyser) she records brainwaves virtually anywhere and arranges multimedia interactive controls and feedback. The blue headband (pictured on Luciana) contains medical electrodes detecting the EEG at the prefrontal cortex of her brain.

The IBVA is harnessed like a psychological Theremin, using HZ and Amplitude as 3D coordinates in sonic signatures, for enthralling audience-participating performances. For instance, the presence of high Delta and Theta waves occur during trance or introspection, from a connection to the subconscious. And steady streams of faster Beta waves can denote active concentration such as listening intently or visual scanning.

Luciana is involved with really stimulating, diverse clients and subjects including: Trance states during Hypnotherapy (soon to be screened Ch5 TV series), experimenting with t111hz sound effects (Brian Barritt and Flinton Chalk) and also with Spiritual healers.

Most recently she is developing a sonic brainwave composition with accompaniments of acoustic and virtual digital orchestrations using bespoke artificial intelligence. This requires her to learn to play the Upright Bass, Piano, Mandolin and Ukulele, assisted by her IBVA neurofeedback system to maintain optimum states during learning.
During Future of Sound Haill uses several EEG interfaces to project interactive brainwave activity between 2 or more brains and creates live generative spatialised sounds.
